Problem Space
A lack of basic features for user referrals (e.g. new user invitations and profile sharing) limits users from fully experiencing Buz's essential features, resulting in high user churn rate.
Design Goal
identifying the gaps
Our user interview shows the following insights:
Participants find it frustrating to navigate multiple pages to search for or add friends.
A referral mechanism is much quicker than explaining how to find a user and adding them manually.
Sharing QR codes makes joining a group easier, where users can scan and connect.
Feature scoping
Based on competitor analysis and research insights, we define the scope:
A universal search bar
A unified and efficient way to search for any types of users by different ways
Invitation through links
Share links to invite new users to add friends or join a group chat
QR code for better referrals
Redesign profile page to include QR code sharing and scanning functions
Design decisions
To integrate the above features, we iterated on different parts of Buz app:
Decision 1: Making all search bar in Buz "search all"
Decision 2: Redesigning profile page for link & QR code sharing
Decision 3: Multiple access to add friends and scan QR code
Final UI
Reflection
Reflecting on this project…
The integration of same feature in multiple touchpoints
Implementing a search bar universal within Buz, and making invitation links and QR code accessible at various points ensured that users could effortlessly find and add friends under many user scenarios. Sometimes, intuitive experiences require redundancy.
